One Ton of Ducks

Be a judge of the area’s best chili and chowder recipes and enter to win prizes in the raffle. Admission is $10, which buys you 10 tastes (cups) of chili and/or chowder. The event includes a no-host wine and beer bar, and some fine musical entertainment!

This is the official debut performance of One Ton of Ducks, a band of seasoned musicians performing finely-crafted original rock and roots music with searing guitars and soaring harmonies. The band includes members of local favorites Steve Harris & Friends, and Giza. All band members are songwriters and top-notch musicians: Mark Dodge sings and plays guitar, keyboards, ukulele, and bass; Roger Ludwick sings and plays acoustic guitar and keyboards; Wende Hilyard sings and plays percussion and keyboards; Patrick Donicht plays bass, percussion, and keyboards; and Thomas Kemper plays the crap out of the drums. The band plays songs by Steve Harris, Bob Christensen, Roger Ludwick, Wende Hilyard, Mark Dodge (whose CD is due out in mid- 2008), and others. For more information, see http://www.bigquack.com/

Trent Summar and the New Row Mob is currently enjoying success with his latest song “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades” on the alternative country charts. His last song “Love You” was a huge success and went top 10 for Jack Ingram. He has also had songs covered by Gary Allan and most recently by Billy Currington. Trent describes his music as “Farm Rock”. Although his music is rooted in tradition it’s a little too rowdy and too much fun. The 15th annual Camano Island summer fine arts and crafts festival features 12 hours of free live concerts, over 140 booths with artists and craftsmen from around the Northwest, plants and garden art, a variety of great food, and a children’s art workshop. Held daily from 10am to 5pm at the Utsalady Elementary School, 608 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Free admission and free parking, on the island with no ferries!

Spin Magazine calls The Barbed Wire Cutters “the young-riders of the bluegrass revolt.” They’ve made appearances at festivals throughout the Northwest, including Wintergrass and FolkLife, were named “Best Bluegrass Band” at the 2002 Columbia Gorge Bluegrass Festival, and were recently awarded a coveted showcase slot at this year’s IBMA international bluegrass trade show.
